A Recipe Book for Kids Can Be a Fun Summer Vacation Project

Want to keep your kids or grandkids engaged with a fun and memorable project this summer? How about making a recipe book for kids using your Matilda’s Fantastic Cookbook Software?

A recipe book for kids is a great keepsake of their summer vacation. And a great show-and-tell when classmates or teachers ask “What did you do on summer vacation?” Not many children will be able to show their own personalized recipe book for kids!

Here are some things to think about when creating and organizing a recipe book for kids:

Use a 3-Ring Binder/Notebook

A full size notebook or three-ring binder works well because you can add recipes at will both now and later. Slide a photo of your kid into the clear plastic front showing him/her in action making a dish from their personalized recipe book for kids.

Include Section Dividers

Divide the recipe book for kids into sections according to their tastes and interests. Also include dividers with names such as:

  • Drinks
  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner
  • Snacks
  • Desserts

Add Plastic Sleeves

Plastic sleeves work really well in a recipe book for kids. The plastic sleeves protect the pages from inevitable spills, and prevent splatter stains when opening cans.

Keep it Simple

Incorporate some favorite family recipes that are easy to make with just a few ingredients, and also check the internet for other easy recipes to add to your recipe book for kids.

You could also include a page full of internet links to websites with other recipes for kids.

And why not customize the recipe cards so the kids can add their own favorites later as they gain confidence in cooking and begin to experiment with new recipes?

A Keepsake That Grows

A recipe book for kids can be an ongoing project that grows over time – and many summer vacations. It can also be a rewarding collaborative effort, with your kids or grandkids contributing their ideas throughout the year.

What a great way to help the next generation develop a healthy relationship with food!

Happy summer project cookbooking,
