Wheat Bread
INGREDIENTS
5 cup flour
2 package dry yeast
2 3/4 cup water
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
3 cup whole wheat flour
DIRECTIONS
In large mixing bowl, combine 3 1/2 cup regular flour and yeast.
In a saucepan, heat water, sugar, shortening and salt until
warm, stirring constantly to melt shortening.
Add dry mixture and beat at low speed 1 min.
Scrape bowl.
Beat 3 min on high speed.
By hand, stir in brown flour and enough remaining white flour
to make a moderately stiff dough.
Turn out on floured surface and knead 10 min.
Place in greased bowl and let rise until doubled.
Push down.
Knead lightly and cut out 3 loaves.
Shape and place in greased pans.
Cover and let rise until doubled.
Bake at 325 for 40-45 min.
Check at 20 min and if bread is close to brown enough, cover
tops with foil.
When done, place on rack to cool.
