There was a time when I was tired of cooking dinner for the family. You betcha!  I’m sure we all get tired of thinking up something new and exciting to prepare for the family dinner. (Haven’t you ever said to yourself: Eek, it’s four o’clock and what am I going to make for dinner!?!)

So, instead of an enjoyable activity, cooking for the family can sometimes become a chore. Even checking through the family recipes and cookbook collection doesn’t get you out of the rut.  It was during one of these doldrums (I’ve had a few), that I decided to create the “YoYo” Meal Plan.

The “YoYo” Meal Plan is designed to give the cook a night off by using up all the previous week’s leftovers that were tucked away in the fridge in small snap-lock containers, or such. The “YoYo” Meal Plan also allows food that is really simple to prepare and eat.  (The “YoYo” Meal Plan is not really meant for anyone to play with the immensely popular classic spinning toy during mealtime.)

The “YoYo” Meal Plan means “You’re On Your Own” to fix it yourself. Another way to look at the “YoYo” Meal Plan is: “You heat it; you eat it.”

Based on family experience, here are the top 10 YoYo Meals of All Time:

1. Soup

2. Sandwich/Hot Dogs

3. Chili/Spaghetti/Lasagna

4. Stew

5. Nachos

6. Salad

7. Cup O Noodles/Top Ramen

8. Frozen dinner entrees

9. Canned pasta

10. Leftovers of any kind; even frozen (if you think ahead)

The “YoYo” Meal Plan is a great way to clean out the fridge, make everyone happy, and give you free time to work on your family cookbook. Oh, and by the way, I do have a Yo-yo toy from the old days (somewhere). Can still do a pretty good “walk the dog.”

Happy cookbooking,
Matilda
