As the summer winds down, some of my cookbook software blog readers may already be experiencing a different kind of “back to school” syndrome. The one where the kids are back in school, and you suddenly have time for those “someday” projects that have been swirling around in your head (you did write them down, didn’t you?).
With all the new-found time on your hands, maybe you can jump start your “make cookbook” someday project by inviting some friends over for a cookbook making party. A cookbook making party can be very entertaining, but without a lot of fuss.
The premise of the cookbook making party is to:
- have fun (and no doubt gossip a bit)
- share recipes
- get recipes entered into your cookbook software
- make a cookbook memento for your guests
Cookbook Making Party Basics
Ask guests to bring a recipe (or two) to the cookbook making party, and a dozen cookies of any kind (bought or baked, it doesn’t really matter).
You will plan to supply the tea, sodas and other nibbles, as desired. This would be a good time to test an untried appetizer recipe that you may want to include in your cookbook. Your cookbook making party guests can decide if the recipe merits a page in the cookbook, or not.
You will also need to have an accessible workstation set up for your cookbook making party, and your computer loaded with my Matilda’s Fantastic Cookbook Software. (I know this is a shameless self-promotion, but after all, it is my blog!)
When your guests arrive, have each one draw a number. This is the order in which they will enter their recipes during the cookbook making process.
With Matilda on the screen and a little instruction, have each guest enter at least one recipe into my recipe template. (If you really want to be productive during the cookbook making party, and maybe a bit sneaky, have them type in one recipe of their own, and one of yours for every one they bring. Heh, Heh, what a great way to save yourself from typing everything.)
Be sure to have sufficient paper on hand to make enough copies of the finished cookbook for your guests, who will surely want to have copies of everyone else’s recipes. Remember, with Matilda, you can create as many different cookbooks as you like by copying the file and customizing the contents. You are not locked into having recipes added by your cookbook making party guests appear in your own family recipe cookbook.
Sheer cookbook making genius, if I do say so myself!
